Centro Cultural Banreservas honors Dominican son musicians
The Centro Cultural Banreservas honored Jesús “Kundengo” Minier and César Namnúm for their contributions to Dominican son music. The recognition celebrates their more than five decades of work in preserving, researching, and promoting this essential traditional musical genre in the Dominican Republic.
The tribute took place during the “A Ritmo de Son” concert, featuring performances by Roberto Bobadilla and the group Son Urbano. During the event, Mijaíl Peralta of the Banreservas Culture Division and Ana María Henríquez of the Fundación Arte y Cultura Raíces presented recognition plaques to both artists.
Minier and Namnúm performed several classic pieces, including “Ven mi morena,” “Isabel,” and “La Paloma,” concluding with a joint performance of “Cuarto de Tula.” The evening served as a celebration of cultural memory and the continued presence of the son genre in the country.
