Centro de Memoria exhibits artifacts related to Colombian political figures
The Centro de Memoria, Paz y Reconciliación is hosting an exhibition featuring approximately 100 archives, audiovisual pieces, and objects designed to reflect on the memories of armed conflict and stories of resistance. The permanent room, titled ‘Terca Esperanza’, includes items such as campaign posters for Bernardo Jaramillo Ossa, a political figure from the Unión Patriótica assassinated in 1990.
This exhibition comes in response to the Colombian national government’s recent decision to remove 63 pieces, including 22 heritage items, from various rooms in the Museo Nacional as part of a cultural initiative. While the government’s actions have been characterized by some as censorship, the Centro de Memoria aims to provide a space for diverse voices in the construction of historical narratives.
Bogotá remains a primary destination for victims of the armed conflict; as of July 2026, the city has received over 418,000 individuals seeking to rebuild their lives, with a significant portion being women between the ages of 29 and 60.
