Centro Desportivo de Fátima upsets Académico de Viseu in Taça de Portugal

Centro Desportivo de Fátima secured a major upset in the Taça de Portugal by defeating first-division side Académico de Viseu 1-0. The decisive goal was scored by Lucas Russo near the end of the match, allowing the fourth-tier club to advance to the third round of the tournament.

António Pereira, the club's president and a priest who has been associated with the team for 56 years, described the victory as a ‘miracle’ resulting from both hard work and preparation. He noted that while the technical staff successfully prepared the young squad for the challenge, the result was unexpected following a recent loss to Os Nazarenos.

This marks the first time Fátima has eliminated a team from the I Liga during the Taça de Portugal. The club now awaits the tournament draw in hopes of facing an accessible opponent to continue their run.
