Centro Fundacional wins altar contest in Ciudad Juárez
The Coordinación del Centro Fundacional has won first place for the second consecutive year in the altar contest organized by the Instituto para la Cultura del Municipio de Juárez (IPACULT). The winning entry was part of the Festival de Tradiciones de Vida y Muerte.
The offering was dedicated to the memory of Ignacio “Nasho” Díaz, an activist for the LGBTTTIQ+ community in Ciudad Juárez. The display integrated traditional Day of the Dead elements, such as cempasúchil flowers, papel picado, pan de muerto, and candles, with symbols of sexual diversity, including rainbow-colored hearts and flags.
Daniela González Lara, head of the agency, credited the staff for creating a space that honors Díaz’s contributions to community visibility. The presentation featured a colorful rug depicting the image of the activist.
