Centro Niemeyer hosts Naturalezas Vivas environmental art exhibition
The Naturalezas Vivas exhibition is currently being held at the Centro Niemeyer in Avilés, running until September 27. Organized in conjunction with the I Bienal Climática, the exhibition uses art to prompt reflection on the future of the planet and the human relationship with the environment.
The showcase features over one hundred works spanning various eras and artistic languages, including loans from major institutions such as the Prado, Reina Sofía, and Thyssen museums. Featured artists include Salvador Dalí, Joan Miró, David Hockney, and Sebastião Salgado.
Curator María Toral explains that the project seeks to invert the traditional concept of ‘still life’ to reactivate the connection between humans and their surroundings. The works address critical themes such as ecosystems, water management, agriculture, and atmospheric phenomena.
