Centrus Energy reports $4.5 billion backlog amid nuclear fuel demand
Centrus Energy is positioning itself as a key player in the nuclear energy sector by focusing on the fuel supply chain rather than reactor construction. The company reported a $4.5 billion backlog of low-enriched uranium (LEU) and high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU) sales commitments in an August investor presentation.
As the market for small modular reactors (SMRs) grows, there is increasing demand for HALEU, a specialized form of uranium required by many advanced reactor designs. Centrus identifies itself as the only HALEU enricher in the Western World with first-mover advantages, allowing it to serve both conventional and next-generation nuclear fuel markets.
