Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month observed in October

October is recognized as Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month, a period dedicated to raising awareness about the condition and supporting those living with it. World Cerebral Palsy Day is observed annually on October 6, an initiative established in 2012 by the Cerebral Palsy Alliance and United Cerebral Palsy.

Cerebral palsy is described as a group of non-progressive developmental disorders of movement and posture that occur during the fetal or infant stages of brain development. It is the most common neurological problem in children, affecting approximately 17 million people worldwide. The condition often involves complexities such as impairments in sensation, communication, perception, behavior, and epilepsy, requiring specialized neurological, genetic, and orthopedic diagnostics.
