Ceredigion Youth Council visits Patagonia to mark 10th anniversary
To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Ceredigion Youth Council, a group of nine young people and four staff members traveled to Patagonia, Argentina, for a 10-day cultural exchange. The trip was funded by Taith, the Welsh Government’s international learning exchange programme.
The delegation, consisting of both current and former council members, visited several locations to explore the legacy of Welsh settlers who arrived in the region aboard the Mimosa in 1865. Key stops included Puerto Madryn, the historic landing site of the Mimosa, as well as the towns of Trelew and Gaiman, which serve as centers for Welsh heritage and language in Argentina.
Participants described the journey as a life-changing opportunity to connect with the local culture and landscape. The visit aimed to inspire young people to embrace new perspectives while honoring the historical ties between Wales and the Welsh-speaking communities in Patagonia.
