Cerignola: 100,000 bottles of tomato puree produced on confiscated mafia lands
The Pietra di Scarto Social Cooperative in Cerignola has produced over 100,000 bottles of tomato puree using crops grown on lands confiscated from organized crime. The production takes place at the “Francesco Marcone” Legality Laboratory in Contrada Toro.
The initiative, known as “Pomodoro Revolution,” employs 14 individuals in fragile social conditions, including people with disabilities, individuals in external penal execution programs, and women fleeing war or violence. All workers are employed under regular agricultural contracts.
The project is funded through the PNRR (Mission 5) and the European Union’s NextGenerationEU, with a total investment of 761,187.57 euros. These funds were used to enhance energy efficiency, upgrade systems, strengthen security, and create new spaces for educational activities and production knowledge.
