Cerignola political tension rises amid council deadlock
Political tensions have escalated in Cerignola following a failed municipal council session due to a lack of a legal quorum. Mayor Francesco Bonito clarified that the absences were due to personal reasons and denied any fracture within the governing majority, despite recent friction with Council President Sabina Ditommaso.
The conflict stems from disagreements regarding an emergency ordinance for an informal settlement in via Candela. President Ditommaso criticized the administration for a lack of transparency and shared decision-making, while Mayor Bonito defended his position and the administration's political line.
Separately, local groups and unions have secured the restoration of a second 118 emergency medical station in Cerignola, following concerns over the suppression of essential services. While some political factions celebrate this as a victory, civic associations have expressed concerns regarding proposals for only partial service restoration during daylight hours.
