Cerignola protesters oppose removal of emergency medical station

Protesters and local officials held a sit-in in Cerignola to oppose the suppression of a second 118 emergency medical station. The decision is part of a new organizational structure approved by the regional government on September 22.

Mayor Francesco Bonito criticized the move, stating that the reorganization was made based solely on numerical parameters without considering the territory's specific needs. He noted that Cerignola covers approximately 594 square kilometers, including vast rural areas and major highways. In the past year, the two existing stations performed over 5,000 interventions.

Local administration officials expressed concern that reducing the service to a single crew could increase response times and compromise public safety. The Mayor has requested a meeting with the Director General of Asl Foggia to discuss the criticalities, but has reported receiving no response to date.
