Cerisano hosts third International Ethnomusicology Conference
Cerisano is hosting the third edition of the International Ethnomusicology Conference at Palazzo Sersale. Organized by ethnomusicologist Innocenzo Cosimo De Gaudio in collaboration with the Stanislao Giacomantonio Conservatory of Cosenza, the event serves as a gathering for researchers, musicians, and scholars studying Mediterranean sound traditions.
The conference focuses on three primary research areas: the roots and hybridizations between Calabria, the Mediterranean, and the Balkans; Calabria’s role as a millennial cultural bridge in the Euro-Mediterranean basin; and the application of new technologies for ethnomusicological analysis and sound documentation.
Participants include anthropologists, luthiers, and experts from various Italian and international universities and conservatories. The event aims to map archaic vocal and instrumental musical persistences that connect Calabrian traditions to the cultural heritage of the Western and Eastern Mediterranean, the Balkans, and the Caucasus.
