Cernătești Mayor targeted in DNA impersonation blackmail scheme

The Mayor of Cernătești, located in Buzău County, has spoken out regarding an attempted blackmail and influence peddling scheme. According to reports, the mayor was targeted by Victor Aurel Șirgher, a repeat offender who allegedly impersonated officials from the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) and the General Directorate for Preventing and Combating Corruption (DGA) to solicit bribes.

In the alleged scheme, Șirgher reportedly used his false identity to claim he could influence prosecutors to drop criminal cases in exchange for large sums of money. The investigation indicates that a third party was used to demand 40,000 euros from the mayor, intended for a purported DNA prosecutor, while Șirgher was to receive 6,000 euros.

The situation involved local businessman Ion Leu, also referred to as Leu Blamuc, who was reportedly involved in the blackmail attempts. The mayor eventually alerted the DNA, leading to a sting operation that caught the suspects in the act.
