Neuquén: Avalanche at Cerro Chapelco and historic K21 race tie
Two separate sporting events in the Neuquén province of Argentina recently drew significant attention.
At Cerro Chapelco in San Martín de los Andes, an avalanche occurred in the “el filo” sector at approximately 1,980 meters above sea level. The incident took place in an unauthorized area outside the ski resort's official boundaries. Two skiers were caught in close proximity to the descending mass of snow but managed to escape without injury. The resort activated safety protocols to secure the area and reminded visitors to remain within designated, marked zones.
In Villa Pehuenia, the 13th edition of the ASICS K21 trail running race saw nearly 1,000 participants competing in snowy conditions. The 21km men's race ended in a historic tie, with Gabriel Muñoz Soto and Javier Carriqueo crossing the finish line simultaneously with a time of 1:50:53. In the women's 21km category, María Mardones secured first place with a time of 2:29:08.
