Cerro Colorado, Arequipa grapples with security demands for Corso and delayed road interchange

Residents of the Hernán Bedoya urbanization in Cerro Colorado asked municipal, provincial and police authorities to increase patrols, curb informal chair sellers and prevent theft ahead of the Corso Descentralizado 2026 scheduled for 9 August on Avenida Bicentenario. They cited previous incidents of chair markings, robberies of car parts and equipment, and confrontations with informal vendors, urging the police chief to assign a specialized unit and to keep security presence after the event.

At the same time, provincial public works manager Alejandro Maldonado blamed the Cerro Colorado district for stalling a proposed road interchange that would link Calle Rímac and Calle Grande. District officials denied any opposition, pointing to design flaws that would shift congestion and restrict access for nearby neighborhoods. They are awaiting a formal working table to revise the project and obtain council approval.
