Cerro Colorado district in Arequipa tops 250,000 residents, census shows

The 2025 National Population and Housing Census recorded 262,080 inhabitants in Cerro Colorado, the most populated district of Arequipa and one of the 26 districts nationwide with over 200,000 residents. The figure represents a rise of more than 64,000 people since the 2017 census, when the district had 197,954 residents, reflecting an intercensal growth rate of about 3.6%.

INEI officials noted that the rapid increase places the district among the fastest‑growing in the region. At the current pace, the population could double within roughly 19 years, prompting local and regional authorities to consider the implications for urban planning, services and infrastructure.
