Cerro Colorado municipality lacks acting mayor following Manuel Vera Paredes' leave

The District Municipality of Cerro Colorado in Arequipa remains without a formal acting mayor following the leave of absence requested by Manuel Vera Paredes. Vera Paredes requested unpaid leave starting September 4 to pursue a candidacy for the provincial mayoralty of Arequipa under the Fuerza Arequipeña party.

Although the Organic Law of Municipalities dictates that the deputy mayor should assume temporary leadership, the transition has not yet been finalized. Deputy Mayor Gina García Rodríguez confirmed she has not yet assumed the role of acting mayor as she awaits her official credentials.

During a recent neighborhood assembly in the José Luis Bustamante y Rivero association, Vera Paredes faced boos and expressions of discontent from residents when he appeared unexpectedly. Despite the reception, he used the opportunity to highlight infrastructure works completed during his administration.
