Cerro de la Estrella National Park: 8,000 square meters recovered

The Mexico City Secretariat of the Environment (SEDEMA) has recovered more than 8,000 square meters within the Cerro de la Estrella National Park in the Iztapalapa borough. The operation was conducted in coordination with the Secretariat of Citizen Security, the Secretariat of Works and Services, and local borough authorities.

The recovery aims to curb irregular urban growth and protect the biodiversity and ecosystem services of this protected natural area. The park's vegetation is vital for water infiltration, carbon capture, temperature regulation, and soil erosion prevention. The area also serves as a habitat for various species, including bats, squirrels, hummingbirds, lizards, butterflies, and native bees.
