Cerro Hermitte geological emergency requires massive earthworks
Authorities in Chubut have released a definitive stability study regarding the geological emergency at Cerro Hermitte. The report, prepared by the company IATASA, highlights significant technical complexities in the area.
Required intervention works would involve moving over 5 million cubic meters of earth, a scale that exceeds the municipal budget and does not guarantee a permanent solution. Consequently, Mayor Othar Macharashvili is coordinating with Governor Ignacio Torres to secure land of similar value for affected families in the Los Tilos, Marquesado, and Mazaredo neighborhoods.
The municipality has committed to providing subsidies and essential services like gas and electricity. Additionally, Governor Torres has pledged to facilitate soft loans through Banco del Chubut for the impacted residents.
