Cerro Largo elevator project shows significant budget discrepancy
In Cerro Largo, Uruguay, a significant discrepancy has emerged regarding the funding for a departmental assembly elevator. In 2025, an investment of approximately $4.68 million was managed for the installation of an elevator at the headquarters.
This original project was a ‘turnkey’ contract that included the supply, installation, masonry work, legal procedures, and five years of comprehensive preventive maintenance. However, a subsequent approval for a direct purchase of approximately $1.8 million (roughly US$44,000) has raised questions about the difference of nearly $3 million. A review of the initial tender suggests the original specifications were broader, potentially covering requirements for more than one elevator and different technical systems.
