Cerro Maggiore landfill dispute triggers legal and institutional clash

The regional waste authority (ATA 3) has not released the deliberations concerning the selection of a new landfill site, a delay that affects the municipalities of Montefano, Pollenza, Loro Piceno, Osimo and Filottrano. Local officials argue the lack of transparency undermines trust after Montefano achieved high recycling rates.

A committee opposing the proposed Cerro Maggiore landfill published a detailed legal opinion stating that the original programme agreement was never properly closed by the supervising commission, creating a “cortocircuito istituzionale.” The analysis warns of potential financial damage to public funds and calls for a redistribution fund to support neighboring towns. While surrounding municipalities seek equitable compensation, Cerro Maggiore’s administration has refused to participate, isolating it politically.
