Cerro Porteño protests Lucas Quintana expulsion
Cerro Porteño has filed a formal protest with the Paraguayan Football Association (APF) Disciplinary Tribunal regarding the expulsion of captain Lucas Quintana during a match against Sportivo Ameliano. The club is seeking to revoke the red card or, alternatively, reduce the resulting three-match suspension to a minimum penalty.
The club argues that the defender did not commit a violent act, but rather made incidental contact during a struggle for position. This appeal follows an official refereeing analysis from the APF which admitted the red card was incorrectly issued and that the incident should have resulted in a yellow card for unsportsmanlike conduct.
In addition to the player's sanction, Cerro Porteño has requested that referee Derlis Benítez, VAR official José Armoa, and AVAR official Eduardo Cardozo be barred from officiating future Cerro Porteño matches and face their own suspensions due to the error.
