Certosa di San Martino reopens naval section in Naples
The Naval Section at the Certosa di San Martino, part of the Musei del Vomero, has officially reopened with a new exhibition featuring 18th-century Bourbon vessels. Located adjacent to the Belvedere terrace overlooking the Gulf of Naples, the reopening coincides with the preliminary phase of the 38th America’s Cup Louis Vuitton Cup.
The new arrangement aims to create a connection between historical Bourbon boats and modern AC 40 racing yachts. According to Massimo Osanna, Head of the Cultural Activities Department for the Ministry of Culture, the reopening restores a historical core of the San Martino Museum and allows the institution to better relate its collections to the urban context and the sea.
The exhibition utilizes digital tools and interactive elements to engage diverse audiences, highlighting shipbuilding knowledge, crew organization, and Naples' long-standing maritime history. The location of the Certosa is intended to provide visitors with a perspective that links the museum's artifacts to the surrounding landscape and historical horizon.
