Cervantino Festival hosts classical and mariachi performances in Guanajuato
The 54th Cervantino International Festival in Guanajuato featured diverse musical performances ranging from classical French compositions to traditional Mexican mariachi.
The Orquesta Sinfónica de la Universidad de Guanajuato (OSUG), directed by Juan Carlos Lomónaco, presented the “Vive la France” program at the Teatro Juárez. The performance included works by Camille Saint-Saëns, such as “Bacanal” and Symphony No. 3, alongside the Mexican organ concerto “Retablo medieval” by Miguel Bernal Jiménez, featuring organist Víctor Manuel Morales.
In a separate tribute at the Alhóndiga de Granaditas, tenor Arturo Chacón-Cruz and Mariachi Gama 1000 celebrated the centenary of composer José Alfredo Jiménez. The event honored the legacy of the Dolores Hidalgo native through popular songs like “El Rey” and “Caminos de Guanajuato,” including a special tribute to the composer's daughter, Paloma Jiménez Gálvez.
