Cervantino International Festival showcases folklore and contemporary dance

The 54th Cervantino International Festival in Guanajuato featured diverse cultural performances, ranging from traditional Mexican folklore to contemporary French dance.

The Ballet Folklórico de la Universidad de Guanajuato (Bafug) led a street parade titled “Identidad viva: danza y tradición guanajuatense.” The procession included 700 artists from 15 municipalities, featuring various contingents such as university groups, retired dancers, and musical ensembles. The parade traveled from Plaza Allende to Jardín El Cantador, showcasing regional traditions like the huapango arribeño.

As part of the French guest program, the festival also presented contemporary works. The company Gratte Ciel performed “RoZéO,” an aerial dance installation in Plaza Allende that utilized the urban landscape and live music by Pauline Frémeau. Additionally, the production “Room with a View” by (LA)HORDE/Ballet Nacional de Marsella and Rone1 was staged at the Auditorio del Estado, exploring themes of rave culture, violence, and sexuality.
