CERVAVAC HPV vaccine receives WHO prequalification
CERVAVAC, India’s first indigenously developed gender-neutral quadrivalent human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, has received prequalification from the World Health Organization (WHO). Developed by the Serum Institute of India (SII), the vaccine is now eligible for procurement by United Nations agencies, expanding its potential for global distribution.
The recombinant vaccine targets HPV types 6, 11, 16, and 18. It is indicated for both girls and boys aged 9 through 26 years. The vaccine aims to prevent diseases such as genital warts and various cancers, including cervical, vulvar, vaginal, and anal cancers.
According to the Serum Institute, the dosage schedule involves two doses administered six months apart for children aged 9–14, and a three-dose schedule within one year for individuals aged 15–26. This marks the 32nd WHO prequalification received by the Serum Institute of India.
