Cervecería Ambev highlights economic impact of bars
Cervecería Ambev Guatemala has launched the “Brindemos por nuestros bares” (Let’s toast to our bars) movement to recognize the economic and social contributions of bars and restaurants. The initiative, presented during International Beer Day, highlights the role of these establishments in supporting a broad value chain involving employment, suppliers, and commercial activity.
A study conducted by Oxford Economics in collaboration with AB InBev analyzed five markets: Brazil, Mexico, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The research found that bars in these regions contribute $126.3 billion to GDP, support over 2 million jobs, and generate $41.3 billion in tax revenue. The study also identified more than 360,000 bars and approximately 162 million monthly visits across these markets.
Beyond economic metrics, the study suggests bars provide significant social value. Based on a survey of over 5,300 consumers, 77% of respondents believe bars help bring people together, and 72% view them as important community assets. The research estimates that bars generate approximately $4.9 billion in annual social value.
