Cerveteri honors Stefano Belmonti, archaeological heritage volunteer
The community of Cerveteri is mourning the death of Stefano Belmonti, a prominent archaeological volunteer and advocate for local heritage. Belmonti was recognized for his extensive work in protecting and promoting the territory's natural and historical sites.
As the vice president of the hiking association Ogniquota, Belmonti played a key role in the development and maintenance of several significant paths, including the Via degli Inferi and the routes around the Banditaccia Necropolis. He was also a central figure in the creation of the Cammino degli Etruschi, an itinerary linking Cerveteri to Veio.
Cerveteri Mayor Elena Gubetti honored his legacy, noting that his contributions to the local landscape and tourism are visible through the many trails and paths he helped restore and map. Belmonti also collaborated closely with the Gruppo Archeologico Romano, assisting with excavations and site maintenance.
