Cervinara closes schools due to elevated dioxin levels

Authorities in Cervinara have ordered the closure of schools for September 12 and 14 following preliminary air quality monitoring. The decision comes after the reactivation of a fire at a waste storage site in the Airola industrial zone.

Preliminary data from Arpac indicates airborne concentrations of dioxins, furans, and PCB-like dioxins at approximately 0.79 pg/Nm³ I-TEQ. This figure significantly exceeds the scientific reference value of 0.15 pg/Nm³ I-TEQ. The monitoring equipment was positioned at the Cervinara Town Hall, located within the residential center.

Mayor Tangredi Filuccio has also introduced limitations on outdoor activities as a precautionary measure. While the administration noted that these levels do not constitute a breach of legal air quality limits, the ordinance remains in effect until September 14 pending formal certification of the analyses.
