Cíes-Baiona open water swim attracts 163 participants

The fourth edition of the Triple Corona Illas Atlánticas 2026-2028 began with the Cíes-Baiona open water swimming challenge in the Vigo estuary. Approximately 163 swimmers representing 11 different countries completed the 15-kilometer course from Rodas beach in the Cíes Islands to Ribeira beach in Baiona.

In the men's category, Eduardo Marrero Delgado won with a time of 4:05:11, followed closely by Luis Martín Coll and Sergio Torres Serrano. Sheila Sánchez Castillo secured first place in the women's category with a time of 4:26:11. In the category for swimmers without wetsuits, Martín Julio Suárez took the men's victory.

Despite favorable weather conditions, including temperatures near 30 degrees Celsius and mild winds, participants faced challenging ocean currents and waves, particularly between kilometers 5 and 8. The event featured a wide safety deployment including 27 boats and 43 kayakers to monitor the swimmers, who ranged in age from 17 to 69.
