Cíes Islands lighthouse to undergo structural renovation

The Vigo Port Authority has awarded a contract to improve the structural security of the Cíes Islands lighthouse on Monte Faro. The project, awarded to Excavaciones y Construcciones Laureano Covelo, SA, has a base tender budget of 393,535.27 euros including VAT.

The renovation aims to reinforce the structure against Atlantic weather conditions and includes reconstructing masonry walls, applying waterproofing products, and repairing concrete overhangs to prevent corrosion. For visitor safety, new stainless steel railings will be installed.

A significant part of the operation involves the lighthouse lantern. The current lantern will be dismantled and removed from the island, while the new lantern will be manufactured in a workshop and transported to the summit via helicopter due to the inaccessible terrain.
