Cíes Islands lighthouse undergoes major renovation and solar upgrade

The Port Authority of Vigo is conducting a major renovation of the Cíes Islands lighthouse to replace its lantern, which has suffered damage from years of harsh marine weather. The operation involves specialized helicopters transporting heavy components to the top of the structure, including a 1,000-kilogram glass body and a 1,500-kilogram metal dome.

In addition to the structural upgrades, the project includes the installation of a new photovoltaic energy plant. Equipped with solar panels and a battery system, the lighthouse will increase its autonomy and reduce emissions by using solar energy to power its light. The project is being supervised by the Port Authority's infrastructure and sustainability departments, with logistical and security support from the Atlantic Islands of Galicia National Park.
