Cíes Islands' Rodas and Figueiras Beaches Declared Safe for Swimming

The regional health and environment authorities in Galicia have lifted the ban on bathing at Rodas and Figueiras beaches on the Cíes Islands after recent water tests showed normal levels of fecal bacteria. The Consellería de Sanidade, working with the Consellería de Medio Ambiente e Cambio Climático, reported that analyses now indicate "valores normales de enterococos intestinales y de Escherichia coli, por lo que no suponen un riesgo para la salud de los bañistas." The beaches, part of the Parque Nacional Marítimo‑Terrestre das Illas Atlánticas de Galicia, were closed for three days following a brief episode of microbiological contamination.

The Xunta de Galicia confirmed that routine monitoring will continue under the regional sanitary surveillance programme, and the local council of Vigo has removed the precautionary signage. Visitors can again safely enjoy swimming at these internationally recognised Atlantic beaches.
