Cesc Llongueras, field hockey icon and Club Egara figure, dies at 96
Francesc Llongueras i Margarit, known as ‘Cesc’, has passed away at the age of 96. Born in Terrassa in 1930, Llongueras was a central figure in the field hockey community, particularly within Club Egara.
A member of Club Egara since 1946, he was part of the team that won the club’s first Spanish Championship in 1952. He also represented the Catalan national team. Beyond his playing career, Llongueras was a prominent educator and co-founder of the Club Egara hockey school, where he trained multiple generations of players, including several Olympians.
In recognition of his lifelong dedication, Club Egara named one of its hockey fields after him. Both the club and Hockey España have expressed deep condolences, honoring his legacy as a teacher, mentor, and institutional pillar of the sport.
