CESE President Claire Thoury visits French overseas territories
Claire Thoury, President of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE), has begun a series of visits to French overseas territories to address local socio-economic challenges.
In Mayotte, local representatives, including CESEM President Abdou Dahalani, highlighted critical issues such as healthcare access, social protection, food security, and inadequate sanitation and housing. A significant concern raised by CAPAM Mayotte President Said Anthoumani is the aging agricultural sector, noting that 79% of farmers are aged 50 or older, while only 1.1% are under 30.
Following Mayotte, Thoury traveled to La Réunion to engage with local stakeholders. Her agenda includes discussions on student precariousness, women's rights, economic development, and biodiversity protection. Meetings in La Réunion involve local officials, academic representatives, and environmental associations, as well as visits to student residences and industrial platforms.
