The Cesena fruit and vegetable market has reached a significant milestone with the inauguration of its new central gallery. This project, promoted by Filiera Ortofrutticola Romagnola S.p.A. (FOR), marks the completion of an ambitious redevelopment plan aimed at modernizing the region's agri-food distribution hub.
The renovation was funded by 5.78 million euros from the Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) specifically allocated for agri-food logistics development. The project, executed by the CAIEC Consortium, was completed in under ten months, allowing operations to continue with minimal disruption.
The new infrastructure features a central market gallery designed with thermal insulation and digital monitoring capabilities. The upgrade is intended to help the facility meet strict European standards for food safety and energy efficiency while addressing competitive pressures from large-scale retail distribution and reducing product loss throughout the supply chain.
