Cesena residents protest maintenance neglect in public housing

Residents of the Sant’Egidio public housing towers in Cesena are protesting ongoing maintenance failures and deteriorating living conditions. Tenants report a wide range of issues, including broken elevators, malfunctioning lighting, flooding in common areas, and doors that do not lock properly, leading to security concerns and vandalism.

A major point of contention involves the building garages, which have been closed for three years. Although the municipality allocated 480,000 euros for renovations, the work has not been completed, and residents have been denied permission to perform minor repairs themselves to regain access.

Opposition political groups, including representatives from Fratelli d’Italia, Lega, and Cesena Siamo Noi, conducted a site visit to meet with families living in the 68 social housing units. The opposition criticized the municipal administration for its perceived absence and lack of action. They also noted that a formal request to hold a council commission on-site to investigate the conditions was rejected by the local government.
