Cesena to implement new roundabouts to improve traffic flow
The municipality of Cesena has approved a plan to improve traffic flow in the former Zuccherificio district and the university campus area. The project, estimated to cost 500,000 euros, involves two strategic interventions along via Machiavelli scheduled to begin in the summer of 2027.
One major change includes the permanent installation of the ‘Alda Merini’ roundabout at the intersection of Ponte Europa Unita and via Italo Calvino. This follows a successful experimental phase in 2023 that demonstrated improved traffic fluidity. The permanent structure will feature a 30-meter diameter, a central flowerbed, and new concrete curbs, while prioritizing mobility for cyclists and pedestrians.
Additionally, a traffic light will be removed in the former Zuccherificio area and replaced with a new roundabout to better manage congestion near the new Department of Psychology headquarters.
