Cesenatico implements new air quality and traffic restrictions

Mayor Matteo Gozzoli of Cesenatico has signed an ordinance implementing air quality measures for the 2026-2027 period, in accordance with the regional Integrated Air Plan (Pair) and European Union directives. The measures are effective from October 1, 2026, through March 31, 2027.

To reduce pollution, traffic restrictions will be enforced in the main town and its districts, including Sala, Villamarina, Valverde, Zadina, Bagnarola, Villalta, Borella, and Madonnina-Santa Teresa. From Monday to Friday, between 8:30 and 18:30, certain private vehicles are prohibited from circulating. These restrictions target Euro 0, 1, and 2 petrol and LPG/methane vehicles, as well as Euro 0 through 4 diesel vehicles and Euro 0 to 2 mopeds and motorcycles. Exemptions apply to electric and hybrid vehicles, carpooling with at least two or three occupants, emergency services, public transport, and vehicles used for passengers with disabilities or urgent medical needs.

Additionally, the ordinance regulates domestic heating. Until March 31, 2027, the use of wood biomass heating systems, such as stoves and fireplaces, that perform below the ‘4-star’ rating is prohibited in buildings with alternative heating systems. For generators under 35 kW, the use of certified A1 class pellets is mandatory.
