Cesi, Umbria receives €20 million PNRR grant for heritage and tourism regeneration

The medieval hill‑town of Cesi in Umbria, famed for its cool mountain breezes, is launching a large‑scale revitalisation plan called “Cesi Porta dell'Umbria”. The project, selected by the Ministry of Culture as one of 21 pilot borghi, is financed with €20 million from Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). It aims to create a model of dispersed hospitality, restore historic architecture, and expand services for outdoor tourism such as trekking, mountain‑biking and paragliding. The initiative also seeks to attract new residents and businesses, turning Cesi’s archaeological sites, Roman ruins, and historic churches into drivers of sustainable economic growth while preserving its cultural heritage.
