Brazil's communication councils convene to boost media policy and fight disinformation

The Centre for Integrated Environmental Studies (Cesima) held its inaugural communication committee meeting on 1 July, bringing together judges, academics and partner institutions to plan a monthly schedule, develop school outreach material and publish a collaborative socio‑environmental handbook.

Meanwhile, the National Congress' Communication Social Council (CCS) scheduled two sessions on 6 July: a public hearing on journalist safety during election coverage and a deliberation of pending bills covering video‑on‑demand regulation, big‑tech economic rules, AI legislation and a proposal to adopt the IHRA definition of antisemitism.

In the state of Bahia, the newly renewed State Communication Council (CECS) was sworn in on 30 June. The 27‑member body, including representatives from civil society, the market and academia, pledged to strengthen public‑communication policies, address fake news and the misuse of artificial intelligence, and promote media‑literacy initiatives.
