Cesária Évora unreleased album to be released in October

A new album featuring previously unreleased recordings by the late Cape Verdean singer Cesária Évora is scheduled for release on October 2. The album, titled ‘Reina da Morna’, marks the 15th anniversary of the death of the artist, who passed away in 2011.

Produced by José da Silva, Évora’s long-time manager and producer, the project features ten rare recordings. This release is the first to come from the Lusafrica archives following its acquisition by Sony Music France in 2025. The tracks are primarily rooted in morna, a genre central to Évora’s international success, while also including elements of the coladera tradition.

The tracklist includes ‘Amiga d’nh’ Amigo’, ‘Sonsente’, ‘E Nos Cabo Verde’, ‘Resposta De Ganha Pouco’, ‘Junior’, ‘Brisa D’bo Sorriso’, ‘Nos Contradança’, ‘Força Di Cretcheu’, ‘Projecto’, and ‘No Po Na Ton’. The first single, ‘Sonsente’, has already been released.
