Cessna T206 aircraft with five people aboard disappears in Colombia
A search and rescue operation is underway in Colombia for a Cessna T206 aircraft, registration HK4985, which disappeared on Sunday, September 13, while flying from Condoto to Guaymaral. The aircraft, operated by the Colombian Civil Air Patrol, was carrying five people: pilot Mehmet Cankaya and four passengers, Perla Costanza Álvarez, Sandy García, María Guzmán, and Yuliza Figueredo. The group had been in Condoto participating in a medical health brigade.
The last communication with the aircraft was recorded at 9:23 a.m. local time. An emergency locator beacon was subsequently activated near Cerro Tatamá, approximately 33 miles from the Pereira VOR. On Monday, September 14, the Colombian Air Force reported finding debris or signs of the aircraft in a mountainous, forested area near the Tatamá National Natural Park in the municipality of Pueblo Rico, Risaralda, at an altitude of approximately 9,000 feet.
Search efforts have faced significant challenges due to the difficult mountainous terrain and heavy rainfall in the region. While authorities have identified the occupants, their current status remains unconfirmed. The Aeronáutica Civil is coordinating the operation alongside the Colombian Air Force, the National Police, and the National Army.
