Cessnock City Council demands Meta remove videos of staff abuse

Cessnock City Council and the United Services Union (USU) have called on Meta to immediately remove Facebook videos that depict the roadside abuse of council workers. The demand follows a recent confrontation on Wine Country Drive where a council worker's foot was allegedly run over while the team was mowing and collecting rubbish.

Mayor Daniel Watton expressed concern that the circulating footage exposes staff to ongoing abuse and allows them to be recognized in the community, noting that online harassment often follows individuals home. The council has reported the content to Meta, urging the company to act swiftly to prevent further escalation of tensions.
