Italian municipalities step up police checks on waste, illegal vending and public decoro

Local authorities across Italy have intensified a series of police and Carabinieri operations aimed at enforcing public order, environmental rules and urban decoro. In Castrovillari the SIULP union pressed the mayor for an urgent meeting over chronic police staffing shortages, while in Potenza Picena the Carabinieri conducted checks on beach establishments. The municipality of Sant’Albano Stura launched targeted inspections to fine acts of incivility that damage public spaces, and Salerno’s police removed improperly discarded waste from several streets.

In several coastal towns, including Montesilvano and Tarquinia, police seized illegal beach vendors and seized hundreds of items ranging from clothing to inflatable toys, and reinforced patrols during the summer season. Environmental enforcement actions also featured prominently: Carabinieri forestals in the Parma area issued fines exceeding €13,000 for illegal tree felling and poaching, while the Carabinieri in Latina opened a criminal investigation after a suspected negligent act caused a forest fire. A joint operation in the municipality of Albanella uncovered illegal discharge of dairy‑industry effluents into the public sewer system. Across these actions, authorities emphasized stricter monitoring, increased fines, and the deployment of additional personnel to deter violations.
