Cetinje approves Josip Broz Tito memorial bust in historical core
The Administration for the Protection of Cultural Property has granted approval to the Capital Cetinje for the installation of a memorial bust of Josip Broz Tito. The monument is planned for a site on Revolution Square within the historical core of Cetinje.
The bust will be placed on a plot currently occupied by a memorial bust of the prominent Montenegrin painter Petar Lubarda. The Lubarda bust is scheduled to be relocated to a new site within a university complex.
Authorities stated that the location is an integral part of Cetinje’s historical core, which holds cultural property status. The decision was based on the site's existing memorial character, which includes busts of figures from the Montenegrin anti-fascist movement and a memorial ossuary for victims of fascism from 1941 to 1944. Officials concluded that a Tito bust would fit the thematic and historical context of the existing memorial ensemble.
