Cetinje Mayor requests Montenegrin citizenship for Nevenka Mićunović

Nikola Đurašković, the Mayor of Cetinje, has formally requested that Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović consider granting citizenship to Nevenka Mićunović. The initiative cites Article 12 of the Law on Montenegrin Citizenship, which allows for the exceptional granting of citizenship to individuals whose admission is of special importance to the state or national interest.

Nevenka Mićunović is the daughter of the prominent Montenegrin diplomat Veljko Mićunović. Despite living in the United Kingdom for four decades, Mićunović has expressed a desire to re-establish a formal connection with her country of origin and her family's heritage in Cetinje.

While Speaker of the Parliament Andrija Mandić has previously supported her request with a recommendation to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a final decision has not yet been reached. The Mayor emphasized that granting citizenship would serve as an act of respect for the historical and diplomatic legacy left by the Mićunović family.
