Ceuta and Melilla sovereignty defended by Granada City Council

The Granada City Council has approved a motion from the Popular Group to defend Spanish sovereignty over the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla. The initiative calls for the Spanish Government to provide extraordinary and sustained resources to ensure security, protect rights, and manage border control following recent mass migration events in Ceuta.

Law enforcement agencies have expressed concerns regarding their ability to respond to future mass incursions at the Moroccan border. Police reports indicate that current immigration laws lack specific protocols for handling sudden surges of tens of thousands of people. Officers have described feeling “tied” due to a lack of legal certainty and clear operational orders, noting that the existing legal framework has not been sufficiently developed to address irregular mass entries.
