Ceuta celebrates patron saint San Daniel with processions and pet blessings
The city of Ceuta held traditional religious celebrations in honor of its patron saint, San Daniel y Compañeros Mártires. Hundreds of residents participated in a procession that began at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Africa due to ongoing construction at the Cathedral.
As part of the festivities, a traditional blessing of pets took place at the sanctuary. Led by Vicar General Francisco Jesús Fernández Alcedo, the ceremony included various animals, such as dogs, a cat, and a snail. During the event, Fernández Alcedo offered prayers for the city, specifically addressing the need for a return to normalcy following the mass migration event at the Tarajal border in late July.
