Spanish regional economies face growth disparities and regulatory shifts

Economic developments across various Spanish regions show a mix of growth projections and localized challenges. In Cuenca, the Confederation of Employers reports that while the economy is expected to grow according to a KPMG and CEOE report, this expansion is uneven across sectors and territories, disproportionately affecting SMEs. Businesses in the region are also focusing on adopting the new ISO 14001:2026 environmental management standards to improve sustainability and competitiveness.

In Ceuta, the government has activated Royal Decree-Law 22/2026, providing labor and Social Security aid to companies and the self-employed to mitigate economic impacts from recent events. However, the local construction sector has raised alarms regarding the proliferation of unregulated labor in small residential projects, warning of unfair competition and calling for increased inspections.

In Málaga, the hospitality association AEHCOS has filed objections against a three-year moratorium on new tourist accommodation establishments. The association argues that the restriction will not solve the housing crisis and fails to distinguish between regulated hotels and tourist apartments, potentially harming investment and competitiveness.
